My Granddaughter and new HAZ member was visiting me for a full week in June'22, this second year in a row. This hike was our second of three planned AZ favorite area day drives and hikes that her Grandpa wanted to share good memories of with her :)

This relatively newly published (Nov'19) Sierra Ancha Hike Guide out of the Billy Lawrence Park/TH Start, provides an excellent scenic overview of the back section for our huge, remote, and rugged Sierra Ancha Wilderness. I am still somewhat at awe :-k since the Hike Guide publication that only our HAZ-tibber has expressed an interest via the Wish List, for planning a dayhike trip here. Too short a hike to justify a ~3.5 hour drive one way from the Phx area? Then plan a vehicle camping trip here [ Camp Grasshopper - Sierra Ancha FR235-C/Site#1 ] and you can enjoy even more of our Sierra Ancha Wild over a longer period of time. I do agree that a forecasted AZ summer day here of 94F is not a good choice when one has cooler season day options to plan this one. Unfortunately, for this second very rewarding visit I did not have another more preferred day drive and dayhike choice.

This entirely off-trail and partial bushwhack hike (out-N-back the "gate keeper" ridgeline section), with some easy to moderate route finding necessary, is a true candy store of unique geological feature with most amAZing short and distant Sierra Ancha area and beyond views and my Granddaughter's favorite of the three (3) day drives and dayhikes that I had planned :D

As of this posting, I should also mention that the 2+ mile drive in on FR410 (the Reynolds Creek Trail Rd) and the additional 2+ mile drive in on FR235 to the ending Billy Lawrence Park/TH Start are in great shape, both FRs having been recently graded. Some vehicle ground clearance with better quality tires is recommended.
