The Tripler Ridge trail begins in a military restricted area. You'll need a military ID to enter. The first mile is on asphalt. As you ascend there are views of the Pacific and Honolulu. The trail, at times, is lined with guava trees, the fruit of which are now in season and very delicious.
The trail beyond the radio tower (end of the asphalt) is narrow, full of roots, can be muddy and has lots of steep ups and downs as most ridgelines do. The ridgeline itself is very narrow most of the time.
I hiked a little over half way to the highpoint before retracing my route. The trail would be treacherous after some rain. Clouds were moving in, and I was alone, so I turned around. It rained but not long or hard.
Saw pig tracks but no sightings, and a lizard I didn't get a good look at.
Very cool demanding hike with great views and flora. Stats include morning hike with Elena. :)
