We started hiking just after 7am and while brisk it didn't feel as cold as I thought it might. The trail near the wash is easy to follow but still rougher than days of yore. We kept a steady pace as Joe told us about the tropical jungle he witnessed in the summer. Less water in the area than I expected but the spring by the Ranch is always reliable. The off-trail still looks inviting as the fire cleared the surrounding area so if the have the desire, now would be a good time. The side trip to the grave site changed since April. Bruce and I backtracked to get there but now there is a route right through the area now. Not as many through hikers as before but more local backpackers along the way. We didn't stray and do any extra exploring but a nice hike out and back. It's good to get in a decent length hike and the ankle felt good. Switching to boots made my legs feel heavy on the return but a good workout. We pretty much hiked together but pulled away from Chris a little on the home stretch. It's good to get out with guys who've been around over the years and rehash the prior trips and happenings. We're no old we're seasoned hikers. |
