| partners | | john and i have had death valley on our radar since our eastern sierra trips
we invited bruce to join us for a week of camping and hiking
left saturday morning, stopping in kingman for lunch
bruce had scouted out a hike for us on the way to a possible campsite
we set out up kaleidoscope canyon mid afternoon
( @redroxx44 has a nice [ photoset ] for this one)
the hike follows an alluvial fan for two miles to the mouth of the canyon
footing is deep gravel the entire hike, which is typical for many canyon hikes
nicely colored rock walls and interesting geology once in the canyon
scenic in afternoon lighting
we stopped at a giant boulder jam after trying a bypass
explored a side canyon on the return which ended at a dryfall
good to hike on a travel day, and the canyon part was nice
found a campsite off west side road and enjoyed good star viewing all night |
