An old grad school friend and his wife invited me to come along on a trip they had planned to the Trinity atomic test site. It wouldn't have occurred to me to go there but it's of interest to many and only open to the public twice a year. The Very Large Array radio telescope installation takes advantage of the Trinity crowd nearby (100mi) by also doing an open house.
Both of these locations can't be/aren't near people so they're really in the middle of nowhere (Socorro NM is closest town). But it's nice country to visit and I can recommend both tours. A few details in the pictures. |
