| no partners | | We hiked up Box Canyon to the Martinez cabin and mine. Hiked back to our SUV using the East Box Canyon . It appears our route in the East Box Canyon started one mile farther northeast up the canyon, as we were returning on the jeep road from Martinez mine. In the upper mile of the East Box Canyopn we needed to squeeze under huge boulders (rather like the "spiral staircase"). In the lower portion of the East Box Canyon there are numerous sections of boulders, narrow walls, drop-offs, water and even two ladders in the canyon. At one narrow point in the canyon, we did need to walk in water for a few steps. No technical gear needed, but do expect minor scrambling and use of hands for boulders and drop-offs.
Hiking just our canyon loop (Box Canyon in and East Box Canyon out) would be 8.3 miles. |
