It was still sub 50 but I shed a layer because I knew it would warm up. Road 24B then trail four. After about a mile, I got fenced in at Ashdale and had to crawl under barbwire. 20 yards later there was a gate. No deer today, but there were scaredy's . Followed trail 4 for about another 1.5 miles and then crossed the creek and headed up. I noticed an old road cut and aimed for it. It was really steep to start. The next 1.1 miles was about 800ft of elevation change. Sometimes, I followed the road and sometimes I cut a roadback and headed toward prospects. Another USLM was captured and there was a summit register placed in 2009. It was the tiniest and coolest register ever. I ate lunch on the summit and took a different route down. Within 15minutes or so, I screamed from several cactus needles penetrating thru my shoe. My heel was the worst. Of course, several times later I needed to stop and fix those spikes that broke off but still penetrated with the right amount of pressure on my foot. Really cool at the crossover, I should have soaked my feet there. Cool day with great company! |
