| no partners | | The start was sub 30 degrees and with the wind colder. The road is in excellent shape but I am not, so I parked where I'd add about 1.5 more miles each way. Trying to build up stamina for some longer planned hikes. I walked RD 1094 for about a mile and a quaterish and reached Walnut Spring which was full and dripping. Off to 1095 which isn't much of a road anymore in places but it's a superhighway for hiking. After leaving the creek bed, I headed for the fence line. I ignored the gate but not the awesome views. I followed the fence line to another gate. Doing some sections of the AZT, you always wanted to be first to the gate. This gate was no exception, easy to open but hard to close. At the summit, I realized that Sunset Mtn. from this side probably wouldn't happen (but it looked so close only inches on the map) (this was the main reason for doing this hike). After the summit, I took a non-recommended route down although the drainage was nice at times. One of my legs was bugging me, so I pulled the bone out and left it on a rock. Someone hates Toshiba. Fun area! |
