| no partners | | I arrived in this area the day before our permits for Coyote Buttes South and decided to explore the area just outside the permit area for Coyote Buttes North before I lost daylight. I wanted to find some arches I have been researching.
I started down Wire Pass Creek and then up the sandy hill towards the CBN permit area. Before I descended to the permit area, I turned south and started hiking up sandy hill to the canyon.
The hiking was sandy and easy at first, but the closer I got to the canyon, the steeper and sandier it became. I was following a track a made, but I ended up going too low and reached a cliffed-out section of the wash. I attempted to climb back up to bypass the cliff area, but it was hard going because of the sandy and steep conditions.
I did find the big arch I was looking for, but was running out of time and could not climb up high enough to get over to it. I did get some nice shots with my longer lens before I turned around and started looking for the other two arches on my list.
Those two were easy to find and the hiking was back to manageable.
This little canyon was loaded with scenery. I will come back again but start higher and traverse the canyon to get to base of the bigger arch.
Always a treat to hike in this part of the world for sure. |
