| no partners | | We started from the parking area at the end of Andante Drive off of 89A and took the south face to the summit. Its a fun climb, but its not the GPS route on the HAZ hike description page. The vague summit post description of this route says its class 4. I'd say it is, but it was pretty easy class 4. There really are great views on top, and I think its possibly one of the best things to do in Sedona.
Afterwards we went and did Morning Glory spire. My partner summited, but I turned back about 100 feet from the summit. I blame my knee, which is still bothering me after nearly 2 weeks, but really I was tired and uncomfortable on the rounded rock with few foot and hand holds. I want to try again the next time I head down to Sedona. I added 400 feet to this climb for Morning Glory.
If interested in the south face, park at Andante and walk up the road to the east. Find one of the hiking trails that leaves the road and head towards the south face. There are pretty well worn climbing trails as you near the base, so as you head up it should become easier to see the route. |
