| no partners | | *Route Scout wasn't working, so I had to guess the mileage and time. Also, Karura raised the admission fee from 600ksh to 741.06ksh.
I started my hike from my hotel, La Maison Royale, to Karura Forest - Gate A. Google says that it normally takes 80 minutes, but I did it in 55 minutes. It's about 4 miles to the gate. It took 5 minutes to check in before checking out Karura. There were more people, especially Muslims, than last week.
I took a different route this time to the butterfly pond, which is not a pond. Butterfly Pond does not always have butterflies, but it did today. I saw some butterfly species that I haven't seen before.
I spend about 3 hours walking around and looking for animals. I found a few birds and some monkeys. I saw one monkey chase and terrorize a boy at the playground but did him no harm. I saw a dik-dik running away toward me. I was spooked by a Muslim family, who might have shooed it away. It was too fast for a photo.
I got some decent photos and found some critters that I have not spotted before there. I walked back to the hotel in 66 minutes. Google maps was not working today, but I already knew the route home. I have to figure out what I am going to do next while I'm still here. |
