Last day of my trip. I decided to walk to Karura Forest from my hotel in the Westlands. Yesterday, I went to Karura with my friend and could have found someone to accompany me, but I decided to venture out myself.

I walked from La Maison Royale to Gate A in Karura Forest. It's a 4-mile walk to the gate thru the city. First thing that I learned is that Nairobi is very hilly. You will discover this when you are walking northbound. Second thing that I learned is that google maps doesn't work well here. It gave me routes that were not accessible. Thirdly, Nairobi is a very walkable city and safe during the day. Most folks leave you alone. Lastly, Kenyans like Americans and always like Nirvana and dig The Misfits when I expose them to Gen X culture.

I first spotted a bushbuck when I got to the gate. I wasn't able to photograph it, but it was close to me. I spotted a dik dik yesterday also, but that too was too quick for a pic. Butterflies were abundant, which is normal there.

The park was nearly empty, and the work crew was cleaning up after the marathon they were hosting yesterday. Karura is a big park, and much bigger than it appears on the map. You forget that you're in a city, as there are bushbucks, snakes, monkeys, dik-diks, and raptures that call Karura home. They forest resembles an east coast forest in many ways and vastly different than the surrounding savannah.

The way back was much easier to navigate thru the busy streets. My flight is at midnight, so I wanted to do something strenuous to help me rest a bit. Kenya is a fun city that you can easily navigate through with friendly people.
