| no partners | | October 30, 2025. Sorry to take so long to post this! This was a leaf-peeping hike, with a bit of elevation gain for the exercise. The trail is in pretty good shape, although very rough due to bedrock, in places. Friends of mine have been volunteer trail keepers here for many years. They do a good job. A lot of their effort is for the cross country skiing: the directional signs, colored diamonds, etc. You could get lost out here on skis, if it weren't for those diamonds on the trees.
On this particular day there was no snow, the aspen leaves were bright yellow, and many were falling like light rain whenever there was a bit of a breeze. I saw no other hikers, although there was a car in the parking lot. There are many options for hikes here. As I wrote in the original description, it's sort of a maze.
When I was walking along the flat part I thought I heard a gun shot, (I thought it was hunters) then another, then a big THUMP! It wasn't a gun, it was the loud snapping of (probably) an old aspen tree, and it hitting the ground. I didn't see it, due to the thick forest. There are lots of old ones in the area.
Since I last lived nearby in Eagar (1999-2013) they have paved the access road. Otherwise it seems about the same. |
