I didn't take a break hiking up today. I simply set a slow pace I thought I could maintain to the rim. I briefly stopped to remove my fleece (yes, it had been chilly), and take a few pictures. Since I needed to be home fairly quickly, I didn't walk over to the viewpoint at the rim, but I did stop for a little while on the way down.
Paul wrote to me, asking if I'd like to do a big Grand Canyon backpacking trip in the spring. Sure, I'd like to, but as a full-time caregiver, I doubt I can get away. But I promised him I would start training, "as if." I never know what will unfold in life, so I may as well be ready for a backpacking trip, if I'm able to get away. So, this is training hike #1.
My hip hurt on the way down. Next time I'll take Tylenol and ibuprofen BEFORE I start the hike.
No wildlife, except a bunny. Saw one other hiker, I know she's a regular. It's the local workout hill. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated Droughty summer, although we've had recent rains. But the grasslands never greened up, and the flowers at this elevation are very sparse. Up higher, you'll see more. |
