| no partners | | I have never seen flowers like this! It's truly amazing there right now. In fact, I think I'll take the mtn. bike and go back today--I'll ride the old railroad grade along the same route, which is open to horses and mtn. bikers. The single-track trail is signed "hikers only." The single track keeps to the creek, whereas the RR grade is a little bit up on the side of the hill. It's the old Apache Railway, which served the sawmill in McNary, back when there used to be logging. There also used to be cattle grazing, which was discontinued fairly recently, I guess. It sure does improve the biodiversity when there are no cattle. I think we may eventually have berry bushes again! There are small ones coming up!
We didn't do the whole hike because my companion is somewhat disabled, and needed to turn around after a couple of miles. However, since he walks very slowly, I was able to take a lot of photos. Going slowly like that you don't get much exercise but you do see more. If I'd had a better camera I could have gotten a classic photo of a Great Blue Heron. Anyway, I did what I could to show the area. Flowers I can identify are: Mountain Helenium (those big yellow daisies), Monkshead (those tall blue ones) Wild Roses. I don't know what the pink ones are, hope someone can tell me. Please comment if you know. |
