My GPS said that I had gone 7 miles by the time I got to Pima Saddle, my turnaround point for the day. That last bit from Pima Spring (which had water in it) to the saddle is very steep and rocky. The views at the saddle were spectacular, and I was sad that I didn't have my overnight stuff with me to stay at the sweet campsite at the saddle. I guess that just means I'll have to come back. I don't usually hike this trail because I tend to avoid the popular trails in Tucson. Today I lucked out and only saw 6 people on the last 1/2 hour of the hike.
And now for a little rant: I am completely irritated with long dayhikes. I spent my whole morning on the move, with a couple short breaks for snacks and scenery, in order to reach the saddle. When I finally got to the saddle, I only had 20 minutes before my turnaround time to enjoy my destination. If I'd backpacked it, I would have gotten to the saddle and set up to enjoy it for the whole evening and the next morning. |
