Weekend hike up Pima trail, forecast was 40% chance rain. When I got to the sign for the
diversion to the saddle I was a little confused if that was Pima trail but someone told me it
was the branch to the right/south. I followed that for a mile or so but wasnt to pleased
hanging onto tree roots along wet exposed rock with a backpack so decided Id go back
to the saddle to camp. Some guys had occupied the area so I reluctantly headed back
down to camp at about 5500 ft. along the stream. Woke to a steady rain about 1am, woke
up at 6am still raining. Was getting worried about the stream rising. While I waited to see
if the rain would abate the temp dropped to 25 and it started to hail and snow. Waited several
hours more in my bag as the snow built up and turned to rain again. Finally let up at about 11
enough to get out without getting too wet. Headed down, unfortunately lost my tarp in
the process as I strapped it to the side. It's a nice trail in better weather and maybe
on a weekday without so many people. Learned from my mistakes but am happy I didnt keep
continue south at ~ 7k ft, would have been stuck in several inches of snow on slippery slopes.
