This time we explored a route down to West Clear Creek that neither of us had done before. If I knew exactly where we were I would be happy to share that information but I'm just a little uncertain. We drove to the right at a fork in the road and crawled over massively huge boulders at a turtle's pace for about 45 minutes until we reached the end of the road and the edge of the canyon. We were near the place where the powerlines cross the creek but not directly under them. We found a foot path and followed it for 45 minutes down to the water. The route was darn steep with lots of loose rocks and one significant spot of climbing (maybe a 15 foot drop) but it was very manageable. The creek was crystal clear and the water temps were perfect. We saw 2 other people in the creek during the day...not bad for Memorial weekend.
I'm looking forward to exploring some of the other points of entry to this super sweet canyon. A high clearance vehicle is a must! |
