I led this hike for the Sierra Club. We parked near the upper trailhead, last section of road is 4x4, and made our way down trail 17. Once at the creek we headed upstream. This is a beautiful part of the canyon, with many cascades and little falls due to the drop of the creek. Also, solitude, we didn't see another soul all day. The hike out is very steep and long. Wait until late afternoon when the sun drops behind the mountains for a much cooler ascent. This is not an easy hike and you are very isolated. Have fun and enjoy this majestic wilderness : )
