Left Phoenix at 5:45, arrived around 7:30 with a coyote sighting along the drive in. Was in a bit of a time crunch (so obviously do a 20 miler) so I knew I had to get going quick. Big Kahuna had much better flow than when I was here in October so I knew the Twins would have solid flow. Seeing snow on some of the northern slopes on the mountains was awesome! You know you’re a Phoenix kid when some old ice/snow is picture worthy! An Arizona state trooper helicopter was flying very low to the ground for a while, interesting. Ran into a friendly HAZ member on the way there and back who was backpacking but hadn’t heard of the twin falls. Pictures don’t do the falls justice as the sheer cliffs get your adrenaline going right away. It’s a bit hard to get a good view of both at the same time but could be done with a bit of climb on the north mesa. Had a well earned sandwich at the 2 falls and got going on the way back where I saw much more people in the last few miles. Pretty solid time overall and would be worth coming back for an overnight stay. One of the better hikes I’ve done! |
