Beautiful overcast day with rain in the mountains, cool temperatures and utterly pleasant conditions… how can I not hike? Especially looking at the extended forecast with a run at 100 within a week?

Quite a few others had the same idea, though I had Carrillo above Wildhorse and Three Tanks to myself.

Garwood dam and the drainage above it were bone dry, as was Wildhorse Tank.

Late afternoon quickie. Nice temps and breezy, with partly cloudy skies that caught the early evening light beautifully.

Working on the Rincon trails in SNP. Put together a huge loop. Highlight is the Tanque Verde ridge trail between Cow Head Saddle and TV Peak. WOW - sensational views.

Felt really good and had perfect weather for a big day in the Rincons

Delightful rainy day hike with wifey. Virtually no one on the trails since it was rainy. Pretty sloppy trails down low, but much easier going past Converse or so.

Great flow through Garwood Dam and down Wildhorse canyon. We unexpectedly found it quite possible to rock hop across the flow and make it all the way to the end of Wildhorse trail.

Simple out & back to the dam with wifey and LE. Lots of stops for photos of flowers. Good flow in the canyon. Took naps next to a waterfall. An overall frabjous day for a hike.

Quick hike to take advantage of a few hours free and nice weather: clouds and sprinkles.

A lot less water than last time, earlier this month. Wildhorse was still flowing nicely though.

It’s pretty green out there. The wildflower show should start soon and it’s looking to be a good one. So far just three open poppies I saw.

Water everywhere! Surprisingly few hikers after the first mile. Had Wildhorse Tank and Garwood Dam to myself.

Spotted three deer on the way back, between the Converse and Stock Bypass junctions. They were completely unconcerned about the crowd of spectators that formed as they munched away.

Only had time for a short hike around sunset so we choose one of our favorite, Wildhorse Tank in Saguaro National Park. Returned via the Carrillo and Garwood Trails. On this hike there was a good flow in both the Three Tanks Canyon and Wildhorse Canyon. On most of our trips these were dry to just a trickle. Visited my favorite saguaro at the Tanks, still as impressive as ever. As the sun was setting along the Wildhorse Trail we ran into a herd of Javelina, They are definitely park pets, they weren't the least bit intimidated and allowed us to take all the pictures and videos we wanted.

Did the loop counterclockwise today. A bit more crowded than I expected for a Wednesday, though I did have Wildhorse and most of Carrillo to myself. No wildlife sightings other than a few birds.

Decided to shake things up by hiking to Garwood Dam from Broadway instead of Speedway. It’s longer and arguably less interesting (more flat) but it did afford some nice views of the Rincons and of the dam from below.

Timing on the return was perfect for sunset. Really enjoyed the light from Pink Hill.

Lots of quail out.

Hiked the loop clockwise this time. Saw a roadrunner cross right in front of me without any concern for me at all.

Not too crowded. A half dozen others on DS, five on Garwood, and had Carrillo to myself.

Finally had a break in the heat to do a low elevation hike, which was very exciting. Started at 6:40am, and it was cloudy the whole way until the return leg. Hiked counter clockwise to keep the sun off as much as possible and it worked out well.

Only saw four other hikers all morning.

Not much water out there despite recent rains. A few pools around Garwood Dam and at Wildhorse Tank. Bridal Wreath was bone dry.

Saw two white-tailed bucks with antlers early on Garwood, one sleepy diamondback coiled in the middle of Three Tanks trail, and one roadrunner at Bridal Wreath. Lots of barrel cactus with fiery flower crowns, otherwise not much blooming. Plentiful ripe prickly pear fruit gave me a hankering for jam.

Took advantage of the less blisteringly hot day after work and went for a hike. Scared the daylights out of dozens of lizards, though one particularly handsome fellow posed for photographs. Also startled a squirrel and three white-tailed deer.

The trail is very bloomy with cactus flowers, ocotillo and palo verde.

Still some pools below Wildhorse Tank.
