Second one-off hike of the day. Probably a nice place to go if you lived nearby, but this park doesn't really warrant another separate trip to go back and finish off the miniscule Coyote Loop section. After finishing an activity, RouteScout still crashes when importing routes away-from-home.

Hike w/ kids. It's been ... awhile ... since we did Silly Mountain, and grandparents wanted to do a late morning swap meet wander, so this worked well to burn energy. Kids did a great job on the hike, watching out for each other (4yo had a decent fall & bruised knee) and getting out of the way for some of the huff-n-puff-earplugged-workout group out there, its rewarding to see them handling these situations by themselves. Shoot, 8yo even helped one confused group get back to the parking lot with clear directions. Parent-bragging aside, trails are in good condition and easy, and I swear some of the easternmost connectors by Baldy are new. This loop is almost a perfect "outer-circumference", we only missed one unsigned connection by Baldy that you can easily pick out on satellite. Fun morning.

Nice day to take a short hike, after yesterday’s drive decided to travel only a mile to the Basha shopping area on Rt. 60 since I needed to make a trip to the store anyway. Made the circumference distance about a mile longer than usual for me. From the parking lot made it over to the Powerline maintenance road along Rt. 60, took one side path wondering where it went led me to a homeless camp not visible from the road but only about 50 yards away, decided to back off ,as it was occupied. After returning to the Powerline road traveled by the Silly Mt. trailhead which was about 3/4 full ,the trail system was moderately busy. Always a nice view of Superstition Mountain from the Superstition View Trail. Looking south into the sun however the San Tans were shrouded in haze. Completed the circle and made it back to the parking lot ,via the social trails behind Superstition Foothills neighborhood, did my shopping ,made it home for lunch.

Still trying to work down my to do list after 6 months away and trying to shake a cold, so just did the hike I can do walking out my back door. Very pleasant weather , fair number of hikers out today, couple of large jackrabbits otherwise no wildlife bigger than a lizard.

Took a break from helping my wife prepare to give an “art class” for the neighbor kids so did my go to hike out the back door. Did a little variation and used the neighborhood paths to go near the Bashas at Rt. 60 then went down the Powerline access road to the Silly Mountain Trailhead. About a dozen cars there today, up and down the trails heading back eastward which affords the best views of Superstition Mountain. Went to the eastern most summit at 2041 feet, had not noticed it appears close in elevation to the actual summit, at 2102, noted also an iron nail driven in the ground perhaps a boundary or survey marker. There are some old fence lines around presumably from the ranching days of old. Short hike but enjoyable hour or so.

Not wanting to fight the traffic of spring break, St. Patrick’s Day and renaissance festival on route 60 opted for the out the door lap around Silly Mountain, one large gopher snake gave me pause ,otherwise uneventful trip.

Combined dog walk ,means slow , trip around the trail system of Silly Mountain. Uneventful trip except one of us applied some fragrance , Eau de horse manure, from the trail. The wind and pollen can really get the eyes burning.

Took the dog for a walk, we both needed some exercise as we were tired at looking at each other. This dog is a 8 yo golden doodle that spent her first 3 years training to be a service dog before flunking out. We previously had another doodle that did graduate. My wife is the person she is attached to but she is at the hospital having a knee replacement done. This dog can open doors,turn lights on, push an elevator button and take your socks off but not much of a trail walker, does lots of stopping along the way, I apologized to 3 young ladies that passed by and told them we stop and smell a lot of bushes,which they replied so do we? Any way after obstructing the trails for awhile we headed home.

First time around Silly Mountain since last spring. Maybe imagining or wishing but seems like the lower portion of the scar on the west side is becoming fainter,I think the route to the summit was changed about 8 years ago.

Breaking in another pair of Lowa low tops ,several pauses to adjust laces to satisfaction. Probably last hike around Silly Mountain until fall. Saw a half dozen other hikers,no wildlife.

Took a more leisurely paced hike, starting in the neighborhood hills,over to the power line access road,one hawk claiming a perch on one of the poles. Included the botanical walk today it displays the commonly seen lower desert flora, sure was a small fish hook barrel cactus. Had not noticed before the views of the San Tans,the Superstitions and the Goldfields from what I term the 3 trail junction saddle. Only about 8 other hikers out today.

Was using the Boston Marathon app to track my nephew’s progress today,may be why route scout did not work,despite head winds and rain and 40 degrees he was at 6 miles when I started my hike ,which was in 70 degree temps , and was at 19 miles when I finished.He finished in a respectable 2 hours and 53 minutes. May have to do a long run this week or next.
