Wanted to get a hike involving Arboretum. Since, this trail is very short and just off the TH I padded it a little by including a portion of Brittlebrush, Old Mine up High Point Trail. I made it up there in time to catch most of the pre-sunrise show. Gorgeous! Clouds provided a great canvas. Orange and yellow dominated as gray clouds became a rainbow. Had the peak to myself for almost 10 minutes before other hikers started to climb. Took the Crest trail briefly to get to Huff N Puff. Then connected to the Superstirion View trail to get back to the Palo Verde trail. I used this to get bad to the TH and the Arboretum trail which forms a .3 mile figure 8. Unlike the other trails in the Silly Mountain (most of which are fairly rocky), the Arboretum is very smooth, composed of crushed stone and compact dirt. Ideal for strollers or wheelchairs. They did a nice job of naming the vegetation - sometimes 4 or 5 times over. A lot of "nature trails" will name a plant once and then be done. Not so here. I think I counted 4 named barrel fishhook cacti. Honestly plants weren't looking that vibrant. Unfortunately, it has been a long summer/winter. |
