Early morning start for a long day. Last week we had backpacked to 1st Water via the JF, Hoolie Bacon, Red Tanks and Dutchman, this week we wanted to just do a day trip from the same upper TH. Picked up Larry and his sidekick Rowdy at 1st Water TH and headed over to Tortilla TH off of Apache Trail. Thanks to Rick ( RZR ) and Dennis for dropping us off at the Tortilla Well, starting our journey from the start of Peters Trail 105, saving us over 3 miles to get to the upper TH from the Apache Trail. Peters Trail 105 is really a nice trail ( all cleaned up except maybe 1 mile toward the end , then rest of Peters was clean ) :thanx: The 1st half was so so, but the last half was killer views all around. Once we reached the last ridge the whole West Supers opened up for us :worthy: :y: Rowdy was our trusted Scout for the trip, and probably was a good thing, seems like Larry would tend to stray off course and good old Rowdy would set him straight :o and get him back on track again 8) . I rewarded Rowdy with part of my chicken sandwich : app : when we stopped at Charlebois for lunch. After our break we headed over to Peralta Maps and then for an uneventful trek back to 1st Water TH via the Dutchman Trail. Loaded up with Larry's vehicle and headed to Rick's Saloon for a beer and related war stories of our latest adventure. Nice to have met and hiked with ya Widowmaker :) Hope the blisters don't hold you back for long :-$

Good Clear water, but must continue past the last camping area and go to the back of the huge boulder to get clear clean water for filtration.

Time for a campout, since we have been hiking the Tortilla TH area, we thought this could make for a great shuttle hike over to First Water TH. Reviewed all the options to First Water, and came up with a route that would give us about equal distance to our campsite and then finish at First Water TH. Turn out great, 11 miles to Charlebois Springs and 11 miles to First Water TH. Once we reached Horse Ridge on Hoolie Bacon it was mostly downhill from there, I did forget how Red Tanks has a lot of very short up and downs. Everything was fine coming down Red Tanks until we crossed off the trail and into the wash, very over grown, someone has been working the trail and once we got back on track, looking back, the trail hugs the left side of the wash as you head down. Was at this spot Rick got stung by a BEE or WASP ??? Needed some doctoring when he returned :( Spent the night at Charlebois got up early and hit the Trail. Now that I am getting introduced to some ultralight backpacking, ( :thanx: Rick ) I can't wait to see what the next camping trip brings ....
