Been wanting to hike up here for a while and finally found the time to do it today. There are three geocaches that I wanted to find up there, one at the NW false summit, the other at the true summit, and the last on the NE false summit. Parked near FR 151E and started up the NE false summit. There's no marked trails leading up and barely any game trails. This combined with the large amount of deadfall everywhere made this a bit challenging. There was really no way to avoid it, so I just had to figure out the best path up that required the least amount of climbing and scrambling over. After 30ish minutes of struggle, I made it to the false summit. Found the first geocache after some searching and continued on. Went down into the saddle then back up to the summit, while of course having to navigate more deadfall and trees. Once at the top I found the second geocache then enjoyed a nice walk to the NE false summit. Along the way I saw a fence that crosses the hills, though it's not doing its job well as most of it had been crushed by fallen tree branches and debris. There was a gate for the fence at the top and what seemed to look like a really faint road, though that can't be right as there's no way for any vehicle to get up here. Eventually made it to the second false summit, which is actually quite high, in fact it's only 20' lower than the true summit. Found the last geocache up here and headed back down. While going down is usually easier than going up, the amount of deadfall and debris I had to navigate made it a pain in the rear. I did make it back down and only ended on my butt one time. Walked back to where I left the truck and headed home.

Video I took of the summit and false summits.

Small amount of water in the tank. However the tank is 8 feet tall and there's no ladders so you'd might have some issues getting out once you collected some water.

The forecast called for snow and I didn't want to camp in a cold storm, but knew that in October we'd have to be there early to catch the best conditions before it melted. So after an early drive up north we were presented with a perfect wintry autumn morning.

To avoid the cluster that is Aspen Corner, we set out from Hart Prairie, crossed Snowbowl Road, and found our way up to the Kachina Trail. A handful of other hikers were enjoying the day in the first 12 feet of the trail, and after that there was nobody else. Borderline comical if you really think about it.

On the return, we considered hitting Agassiz for a bevvy, but the traffic near HP quickly put the kibosh on that plan, and upon seeing the shoulder to shoulder line of people heading down the nature loop, we opted to skip that part for a more direct path through the prairie. As is 100% reliable here, we encountered at least a dozen deer enjoying the afternoon.

The forecast had called for scattered snow showers with some accumulation all day ... none of which materialized as clear skies dominated. That changed as we set out to find somewhere to camp, with a fierce evening snow squall that quickly dumped 3-4 inches, reduced visibility, and made finding somewhere dry and clear impossible, even 2000 feet lower in elevation.

So, alas, camp was a bit of an adventure, but we were prepared enough to make it an enjoyable night. It never did stop snowing, though the ground melt offset the snowfall somewhat with only about 8" of accumulation in the morning.

We spent a few hours enjoying the hills around the peaks before heading back down to the valley.

You can never be sure when the first real snowfall of winter happens (sometimes not until January!), so I'm glad I made the effort to take advantage of this brief October aberration.

After exploring NW of Kendrick Peak all day and avoiding all the nearby control burns with burning debris everywhere I caught a glimpse of Autumns very own flame during my drive.
I’ve always wanted to photograph red aspens in Arizona so I was on a mission when my target was acquired.
Nice steep little climb to a treasure grove for photos with a quiet sunset followed by seeing a young spike bull and cow elk in the dark at the end of the little hike.

Still a bit early but some serious color show going on throughout these baby aspen.

This was a nice hike shrouded in pines, but very little exposed spots to see the fall scenery. There were a lot of hikers and hunters about as I did this hike. There was no real view of the surrounding area from the top. A little to the northeast of the summit is an opening where you can get a good look out of the trees. Otherwise it's all fairly dense pines. I saw elk, deer, ravens and quite a lot of sign that a bear likes this area too.
