What a great day to be in Sedona! Staged out of Posse Grounds Park and headed west through the neighborhoods to Sugarloaf Trailhead and jumped on Tea Cup trail. Took that east over to Grand Central south to Coyote. Started climbing back up the hill to Adobe Jack and Ant Hill to Jordan and then back down Javelina. Jumped on 89 back up the hill to Soldiers Pass road and jumped a trail back over to Posse Park. Fantastic day and great trails. Saw hardly any bikers or hikers on the trails, which was unexpected.

I read about this trail in my monthly email from Sedona Monthly and decided it was worth checking out.So I headed out early this morning and enjoyed a nice drive. In Sedona I went to buy a Red Rock Pass and was told that it was National Get Outdoors Day and that pass fees were waived for the day. How nice. Arrived at the small trailhead located on 89A just west of the Y a little before 7 and got underway shortly thereafter. The trail winds it way through scrub and larger trees So shade is available throughout. It is even with some areas of rockiness. It also has some up and down no problem for the average hiker. Between that and the warm morning I realized that I did not have a 4 mile round trip in me today. So I set my alarm for 2 hours after I started as my turnaround time. There were nice views of the surrounding area to be had from time to time. It was a very quiet morning with the occasional bike riders and hikers making an appearance. This was a good introductory trail to the area, easy to find thought the small parking area makes an early arrival a necessity.

Belated post. My wife and I had arrived late into Oak Creek Village on Thursday night. After driving around for awhile, on Friday, enjoying the views we settled on the Adobe Jack TH in the heart of Sedona. This trail is just off the 89a about a mile west from the round-about with 179. Either this is a relatively new TH or it is not part of the Red Rock trail system. I did not see this system of trails on any other maps except the ones located at this TH. Odd, because if you follow these trails far enough they do tie into other trails.

There's enough parking for 6-8 cars, but when we got there we were the only ones there. This was to be a very rainy day and when we started the clouds were already starting to build. This made it humid and unfortunately (for my wife) not cloudy enough. My wife enjoys the outdoors, but does not tolerate heat and sunlight, especially when combined with humidity very well. We did a short clockwise loop involving Adobe Jack, Coyote, and Crusty Trails and at least one other, whose name escapes me. At first, there were some nice homes that overlooked us on the west, but the trail gradually dropped and turned away from these and we lost sight of them due to a nice scattering of juniper pines among others. This loop was a little "hilly" as we went in and out of several dry washes. AEG was probably in the range 150-200ft. We saw a few lizards and a chipmunk, but nothing else. Very nice hike, made even more so, by the company :D .

I could be wrong, but I don't believe this TH requires the Red Rock Pass. I don't recall there be any signage there. This might be one of the few in-city TH that doesn't require a fee. And it does connect to other trail...if you're willing to add a few miles to your hike. If anyone else hikes here and sees differently please correct me.
