After driving around for awhile, on Friday, enjoying the views we settled on the Adobe Jack TH in the heart of Sedona. This trail is just off the 89a about a mile west from the round-about with 179. Either this is a relatively new TH or it is not part of the Red Rock trail system. I did not see this system of trails on any other maps except the ones located at this TH. Odd, because if you follow these trails far enough they do tie into other trails.
There's enough parking for 6-8 cars, but when we got there we were the only ones there. This was to be a very rainy day and when we started the clouds were already starting to build. This made it humid and unfortunately (for my wife) not cloudy enough. My wife enjoys the outdoors, but does not tolerate heat and sunlight, especially when combined with humidity very well. We did a short clockwise loop involving Adobe Jack, Coyote, and Crusty Trails and at least one other, whose name escapes me. At first, there were some nice homes that overlooked us on the west, but the trail gradually dropped and turned away from these and we lost sight of them due to a nice scattering of juniper pines among others. This loop was a little "hilly" as we went in and out of several dry washes. AEG was probably in the range 150-200ft. We saw a few lizards and a chipmunk, but nothing else. Very nice hike, made even more so, by the company .
I could be wrong, but I don't believe this TH requires the Red Rock Pass. I don't recall there be any signage there. This might be one of the few in-city TH that doesn't require a fee. And it does connect to other trail...if you're willing to add a few miles to your hike. If anyone else hikes here and sees differently please correct me. |
