Made a loop out of a few trails and ran it until the sun went down. Felt pretty good. Very beautiful evening. Saw some deer and just a couple people.

We made a trip to Prescott so decided to check out some of the north Thumb Butte trails. The lasso loop we hiked on this day could not have been ordered any more perfect, weather in the mid 50’s, snow packed trails, and a running creek.

We hiked Pine Lakes, West Trail, Firewater Trail, and Willow Creek, with a return back on Pine Lakes. Started at 3ish and finished close to 4:45.

I suspect these trails see a lot of mountain bikers so if your looking to hike this trail system when usage is light, winter is your time.

As the weather was getting hot, tried to get a quick hike in before it reached broil. Finished with temps hitting 85 degrees and it wasn't even noon yet.

The Willow creek riparian zone is by far the most beautiful section of the Thumb Butte area in my opinion.

Firewater Trail is one of the trails in the Spence Springs Basin just west of Prescott, Arizona. For a full description of the trails in the Spence Springs Basin, see the description of Noodle Loop Trail #760 which is the only trail from the the Spence Springs Trailhead. Firewater Trail is the southern-most of two trails that have one end in the Spence Springs Basin and the other end at a trail near the Thumb Butte parking lot. The west end of Firewater Trail is where Javelina Trail #332 and Willow Creek Trail #704 meet near the fireplace that gives Fireplace Spring its name at the South Fork of Willow Creek. From there, Firewater Trail climbs up to West Trail #318 about a half mile northwest of where West Trail starts/ends at Pine Lakes Trail #316 which is 1/4 mile north of the Thumb Butte parking lot. The west end of Firewater Trail is about 2.5 miles from the Spence Springs Trailhead via Noodle Loop Trail #760, Willy Nilly Trail #707 and Willow Creek Trail #704, or about 2 miles from the Iron Springs Trailhead via Javelina Trail #332.

In May, look for a claret cup cactus blooming behind a rock on the south side of the trail about half way
