Hiked this with a group of about 10 teens. They hiked quite slow. The trail is pretty generic but we saw incredible wildlife!

A nice loop trail around the area by Kartchner caverns. It was a bit hotter than desired, and very exposed to the sun, but it was worth to climb up the side trail to the nearby peak, and to see a bunch of wildlife including a deer and many colorful birds and lizards. My youngest went with me, and he was even a good sport about it! :) It is near to see the area above where Kartchner caverns is hidden below, a gem underneath a hill like any other!

I wouldn't make a special trip to do this hike, but it was nice to have something fun to do while staying at the Campground, besides the cave tour!

We decided to stop off here and do a quick hike since it was in the area of our south-eastern AZ road trip. We got a early start as is usually the case, and only ran across 6 people on the hike, at the end of the hike.

Its a pretty flat hike, but you have some good views of the mountains in the distance.

I did all the trails on State Park land- Foothills, Ocotillo, Mountian Viewpoint, and Guindani Connector. Started in the evening and went a little later than last light. Got a little nervous in the dark, particularly when a cow and I scared one another.

Guindani loop clockwise with a little Foothills at the end.
Had a great hike! Excellent scenery, counted many AZ rainbow cactus (my fav) along the way, water was flowing down the canyon & the weather was nice on this early March day.

100+ vehicles in the parking lot, but not a single other hiker encountered today. I guess everyone was there to see the big hole in the ground?

Whetstone Mountains rock!

2nd day in a row & another AZT rain-out so with another short dry weather window we called another audible.
Met a retired couple from BC at the summit of 5078... they were just aboot to wrap up a wide 'American Loop' already having racked up 12,000 miles across Canada to Montreal, down the east coast and across the south.
Good thing I packed my paper-thin poncho as the rain arrived with a mile to go.
Again, nothing special... been there, done that, no need to return.

A lovely hike. My three year old hiked almost half of it himself. We went clockwise and luckily he was done hiking before we got to the backside. It was a little rough over there. Very enjoyable, we also skipped the spur to the peak. With an extra 30 pounds on your bag that squirms, it was a little more than I wanted to handle.

I took my kids to Kartchner Caverns for the day, and after the cave tour, we decided to hike one trail before heading back home. I was wanting to hike Guindani Trail, but it was warm today, so I went with the shorter & easier Foothills Loop. It's a pleasant enough little loop--nothing exciting, but some nice views, and good to stretch your legs on before or after a long car ride. We skipped the optional side trip to the peak, but I don't think the kids cared. The park ranger recommended making the loop clockwise, which is what we did, but it seemed to me like either way would be pretty much the same experience.
