On our way to Page for Stage Two, we stopped at the Toadstools. We even convinced Connie to come along for this short hike. This time I was in charge of getting Connie to the Toadstools.
We started out in the afternoon. The temps were still pleasant at 2:36 PM. My watch said 52.8 sunny degrees and 32% humidity. There weren't too many cars at the trailhead. The girls hiked ahead after awhile and I took over Connie duties. She hates hiking as I would find out later, altho maybe it was just that day (not this one). Well I decided to follow a lower route trying to find an easier way for her to ascend to the Toadstools. We basically followed the wash as I saw footsteps and figured that would be a good way to go. We eventually came up from the east side.
I had the girls do some posing like we did when I was here in 2011. Jaelyn did the best in that category. Jenaya and I walked back to what I call the Cathedral, the big white wall of mountains to the north behind us. I encountered a person and a couple members of his family from a European country. He was a bit of a photographer and helped me try to do the straight up picture I had been taught in Spain when inside an actual Cathedral; sadly, it's been too long and I can't remember what he had me do .
We all finished walking and gawking and then headed back to the main Toadstool formation, realizing Connie had taken off back to the Trailhead. Interestingly enough, she had hooked up with the wife of the family I had met in the Cathedral. When we were walking in the creek bed, we were in the shade, but as we approached the trailhead, we were in the sun.
And now it was on to Page and our new Vrbo for the next couple nights. On Highway 89 we pass by Stud Horse Point. There looks to be a couple hiking possibilities there so maybe, one of these days, I can check that out.
Here are two videos from the beautiful journey in Toadstool land:

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
