Kelly asked me a couple weeks ago about my trip to Acadia National Park for an Arizona Highways Photo Workshop last October so I'm finally getting around to putting up a report. It involved minimal hiking really but what little hiking we did usually had incredible payoffs. I highly recommend you put this on your bucket list if you have one; especially to see such awesome fall colors :y: . There is plenty of hiking that can be done and I would highly recommend that as well.

I have to say it was nice to be driven around in a van with a former in-resident photographer as she knew when to go and where to go. All we had to do was show up. We had two vans for the assistants and participants that were rented in Portland, ME where we all met. Our home at Bar Harbor Inn was spectacular. We walked into town for our entertainment and our meals. The grounds here were beautifully gardened and had lots of color.

The early to rise took a bit to get used to for me especially with the 3 hr time difference and the very cold temperatures and usually windy conditions but I managed just fine. We would shoot the sunrise and then maybe somewhere else before coming back for breakfast which was followed by a little downtime or a critique session.

Most of the time we would walk into town for lunch as a group and tried all of the local favorites it seemed: Side Street Cafe (had Lobster Mac and Cheese, YUM and our first lobster roll (the best of the many we had at various places), Geddy's, Galyn's and Paddy's. Needless to say I always had "lobster" something. I even tried a lobster pizza at Blaze, they used a white sauce. However, Blaze is not a place I would go back to. On one of our "on your own" we tried Jalapenos and enjoyed the lobster tacos and roasted corn on the cob. Don't order the home made sangria as it's not; Altho the bar tender did help dress it up at my request.

After lunch and/or critiques it was out to shoot the sunsets. I was still so new at all of this and based on guidelines from our most wonderful trip leader and head photographer Colleen Miniuk-Sperry :app: I learned a lot. I did get a few good shots with my Canon T6-S that I didn't know very well as I really hadn't used it since April. I worked with my cable release which was kind of fun trying to capture the waves. Two of the sunsets we shot were at lighthouses: Bass Harbor and my favorite of the many lighthouses I saw on my NE Coast trip, Pemaquid down in Bristol, ME.

Mrs OH and I went on a 10 day driving trip along the east coast from Boston up to Acadia National Park in Maine and back. We stayed at a B&B in South West Harbor in/near Acadia NP for three nights. I would highly recommend South West Harbor as a place to stay when visiting Acadia National Park. It has a picturesque little village with several good restaurants and without the crowds of Bar Harbor. We only had two full days to explore the park and only got out to hike on one day. It was raining and views were socked in with low clouds on the other day. There are so many places to hike in this park but we decided on the Ocean Path because of the spectacular views of the ocean and rugged coast line. The Park Loop Road parallels this trail and has parking available at all the major view points but you see so much more hiking the trail. It's an easy well groomed trail with many short spurs out to the cliffs that line the shore.

This trail in Acadia National Park is known as Ocean Path, Ocean Trial and Ocean Drive Trail. It starts from the upper parking lot at Sand Beach and runs along the road past Thunder Hole to Otter Point and back. Easy trail with little AEG with outstanding views of the shore line.
