A group of us planned this as a single day run and with a later backhaul start time, decided to start at the petros for a shorter paddle than doing the full run from the dam. Moisture from Kenneth streamed into the state and significantly outperformed model forecasts and we were surprised with an hour of light rain as we prepared to set sail in the morning. A mile of brutal headwinds ending near 6-mile camp had us all pretty well exhausted and looking for a break. That was short-lived as the 20% chance of showers decided 100 was a better number and kept us on a steady pace back to Lee's as it rained steadily for the next 3 hours.
The noobs all said "one n done", while the couple of us who were on repeat trips explained that there's not always miserable weather out here. It sounds like a permit system is about to be enacted here, not just for overnights, but even for day use. Some of the riverside beaches and benches suggest that it's long overdue. |

The trip down the river was very low key. Some great views of the canyon and good information provided by the guide. A lot of contorting and craning of the neck to try take in all the sights. Excited to see where the Rope trail ends. Definitely, on my list to check out. 
Stopped at the petroglyphs. Well preserved with the exception of one idiot who added his name to the glyphs. Wildlife included a handful of herons (seen throughout the trip) and 6 wild horses seen near Lee’s Ferry.
