Been quite a while since i've been hiking. Was a pretty nice day for this one, a bit on the warm side considering we arrived at the trailhead around 11am. My 2 daughters(9&11) and I got to the top after about 4 hours (mostly me holding up the ascent). The breeze at the top was perfect, made for a great lil picnic at the top with the not so timid chipmunks. The descent was made a lil bit slow due to my lil one, but no problem with me better slow than face planting a large boulder from a 10ft tumble.
Great fun and would recommend this one to anyone.

Toughest hike i've done to date. it was a perfect day for the hike it was 85 in flagstaff. a bit cool at the top but no means cold. forgot the sunscreen oops. alotta hikers today and alotta dogs makin the trek.the smell of the pines was refreshing and the view from the top was amazing.

must have been confused on the directions, i stopped where there was a trail marker for walnut trail, and pine . went down into the creek after the marker and decided to stop for lunch. with the kids we decided to not continue with "is it around the next corner?"

great day for this hike. seen my first predator in AZ the tarantula. the kids loved it, they went a lil slow for our likin but it was good fun. i hiked up a ridge to the right of the large opening that gave first sight of the weaver needle. was a nice gentle hike, lots of butterfly's some of the bushes we walked by created a swarm of them .

took the kids out for the first hike in arizona. right from the parking area we seen 2 deer about 30 yards behind us takin their time through the brush. we're from michigan, so they were captivated by the lizards and the cacti. this time we actually got to see a descent waterfall . i boosted the kids up to the top where the waterfall takes its initial drop but was to slippery for me to follow. the water was about waist deep on me. my lil 5 year old took a lil fall between some rocks and gained a lil experience :) i promised them if they caught a lizard we can keep it.....didn't think they would even get as close as they did to 'em, whew!! all in all it was a good starting hike for them and they seemed to love it.

was actually coming to do "first water trail" first marker we came to said one way dutchman trail other way second water trail. we had just had some rain the night befor,so figured why not see a waterfall....ooops. there was a tiny trickle of a waterfall on second water trail though at the first water creek. the views on this trail were GREAT every 200 to 300 feet a new scene unfolded in front of you. there was alotta wildlife a eagle appeared to have caught a snake. jack rabbits ran by along with some nervous lil ground squirels, lizards were gorging on the thousands of ants that that were scattered about. the foliage was pretty dense in a few spots. was a great hike and not very difficult.

no waterfall today, just a few stagnant pools....the cove where the waterfall sits was a good way to get out of the sun for a while . the rock color was very neat, was like you were on a alien planet. perhaps i'll take the kids with me after a nice rain to check it out.

Took the nice day as an opportunity to visit camelback. i'm still much out of shape but the hike was definatly fun to say the least. i made it to the top just as the sun was setting through some clouds. coming down was quite jaring on the knees. i woulda say this was much more difficult than squaw simply because its steeper and some spots had to be climbed a bit more like a small ladder. i noticed quite a few people stopped and turned around befor the first steep railed incline.

i'm still bummed that i forgot my camera. the short hike was very nice. the first pool as you walk had a very nice beach very fine, deep sand. the water drops to at least 9 ft deep and was very refreshing in the 90 degree weather. many families at the bottom, took away some of the charm as they went loudly crawdad fishing. everyone was cleared out besides 1 family before dusk. as the sun went down the reflection from the canyon wall mirrored almost flawlessly in the gently flowing water. the hike out was a bit strenuous at first, thank goodness it was short. we had to hike about an extra 1/4 mile because the road was a bit too rough to continue any farther in my car. great hike for the kids though gonna be bringing them next time.

this was a very beautiful hike. my girlfriend and i are still ametuers, and bit off more than we could chew. before the hike we understood by a few sources that the hike was 4 miles in, so we packed accordingly. after about the 6 mile mark we were running very low on water. after the grassy meadow before the final descent we took a break, and was not sure how close we were to the creek. i so i took a look around to see if i could find a lil water to insure we had enough, luckily i found a few very small pools of water. i pumped out about a half gallon, and then back on our way we went. We learned many lessons that day, and are gonna start a lil smaller from here and work our way up.i'm still sore to this day. on a brighter note the hike was awesome, swimming in the canyon was a huge relief after the 95 degree weather we faced on the way in. there was alot of wildlife on the way in many species of humming birds and lizards. in the pool there was an abundance of crawdads and fish. I'm glad i found this site, its much more reliable than all the others.
