We took the alternate route, up the wash before mile marker 5.

This was an awesome hike. The views at the top are amazing: Palo Verde nuke plant, Estrellas, Phoenix, Four Peaks, everything. Minimal smog.

Unfortunately, when we arrived back at our vehicle at Area 1, it had been vandalized: someone threw a rock through the front passenger door window. There were no visible valuables, and nothing was stolen. The MCSO deputy on duty at the Park arrived on the scene quickly after we called it in; then he got a call about a similar incident at Area 2. Some sociopath paid $6 to break car windows?! ](*,)

Hiked the one in Hiker's Guide to the Superstition Wilderness, with the Painter's Mine sidetrip. Didn't leave enough time for the Box. La Barge Creek was running nicely, but not so heavy as to require any swimming.

We hiked this trail "backwards," i.e. west-to-east. The western ascent route was somewhat difficult to locate at times but no big deal.
