The Peavine Trail is a wide, flat trail perfect for bikes, dogs, or running. It has many smaller trails that branch off of it that are real hikes. We started on the Peavine, veered off onto the Lakeshore and followed that for a while, then back onto the Peavine. We stopped at the Secret Cove for our lunch/break. This was our first hike in quite a while and our first with our 15 mo old strapped to my back. :) Overall a good hike and good views.

The parking lot at the Peavine Trailhead has a $2 fee but no fear, there is a credit card machine.

Great hike! We hiked with the "crew" today and had a blast. Really liked all the rock formations and the waterfall.

It was quite cold and windy out. We made our way down into the canyon rather quickly, first hitting the Ooh Aah Point and then Cedar Ridge, where we encountered Matt's favorite solar powered composting toilets - a relief after all that water. ;) We continued to our turnaround point: Skeleton Point, which is 3 miles from the trail head. We ate our "lunch" at Skeleton Point: a lunch that was more like a breakfast since it was around 8:30 AM. We turned around and made our way back to the trail head. It was quite a hike and elevation change as we made our way up. Totally fun and beautiful-the pictures never do the canyon justice.

:? We attempted to hike Humprey's Peak, the tallest point in Arizona, today. We ended up hiking for a total of 5 hours, but we never made it all the way to the top. We aren't sure just how close we got: we really couldn't see very far in front of us due to the extreme weather. Although we were pretty well prepared: lots of food, water, warm clothes, hats, and even rain ponchos, we were not prepared for the extremely cold and windy conditions. It ended up getting into the 30s plus very strong winds, rain and fog - felt much colder! We decided not to be too foolish, so we turned back after getting a little too wet and too cold.

Peralta Trail #102 - This morning we hiked Peralta Trail, which is in the Superstition Wilderness, east of Apache Junction. The ~8 mile road from the US 60 to the trailhead was pretty much a very unmaintained dirt road - thank goodness we had the truck. (There were some people driving little passenger cars!) The hike itself was ~4.5 miles and it was very green - we almost forgot we were in Phoenix. The view at the top was very beautiful!

This morning we hiked the Go John Trail (4.8 miles) in Cave Creek. It was surprisingly very very green! This park was huge with great mountain views and very few houses surrounding the trail. And it was a bit more deserted than the other trails we have hiked around the valley; we only ran into a couple of other hikers and bikers. It was very peaceful and cool.

Matt and I went up to Pinetop to hike where it was much much cooler! Matt, our friend Tait, and I hiked 9.5 miles on the Panorama Trail. It was a little muddy from all the rain, but luckily it didn't rain during our hike. I think the elevation made it a little tough, but still better than hiking in the valley with the extreme heat.

Matt and I hiked Holbert on South Mountain this morning - and boy was it hot and humid! We started at the top, hiked down to the bottom and back to the top to simulate hiking the Grand Canyon.

Matt and I hiked Squaw Peak/Piestewa Peak up to the summit (Trail 300). This was tough, but worth it. Plus it was pretty cool outside (when compared to the week's highs around 116!).

We hiked the Bajada trail at South Mountain this morning and we had a blast! It was once again really hot, but it will be worth it. There were also tons of people running up the mountain for Team In Training and just as many bicyclists -- surprisingly there are many people up early on Saturdays!

Matt and I hiked trail #44 at North Mountain this morning. And we barely made it! This hike was VERY steep -- I think they lured us in with the first hike and then slammed us with this one
