This hike has been on my list for a while. The NO DOGS allowed rule, has prevented me from hiking this trail(and other cool trails in the area.)
It was a great morning hike. It really gets the blood flowing. Maybe it was a good thing my Miss Ellie wasn't here. She would have destroyed my time to the top.

I wasnt sure if the old trail to Chimney Rock trail was available for hiking. So I stopped for a few minutes to check out the old cemetery. Chimney rock reminds me of the old Oregon Trail game. I even had a dog named Chimney.

I first drove to the top of the Bluff. The weather was chilly with a strong wind. I added an extra layer of clothing and hiked the Summit trails. I then drove back down the bluff. I hiked the Oregon Trail section and then the Saddle Rock trail that leads to the top of the bluff.

I lucked out again. This was a perfect day to hike this area. It started out as an overcast day. A few minutes into the hike it started to sprinkle turning into a full on storm. I was able to see the French Canyon Falls transform. I wish I would have researched the park before my trip. I would have loved to check out LaSalle Canyon Falls while it was raining.

Overall I enjoyed this park. At first I didnt like that most of the trails where a wooded walkway. After hiking 90 minutes in the rain, I started loving them. I can also see this park getting very busy at times. Im guessing I lucked out with the rain, because I had most of the park to myself.

I was driving around upstate New Your when I saw the sign for Auger Falls. It sounded like a great place to stretch the morning legs. I couldn't gather any information on this hike. It wasn't planned and I didn't have cell service in the area. The trail headed downstream so I followed it. It didnt take to long before you find the falls. It was a short beautiful hike with some fall colors starting to show.
I spend the rest of the day, driving around and checking out some lakes in the area. I also stop and check out a set of Railroad tracks. I was hoping for a picture with some fall colors. I ended up getting stuck in the mud. I didnt realize how far my tuck was sinking. Good times playing in the rain.

I was driving West on I 90 looking for a place to watch the sunset. I picked Lorian Harbor. I was hoping for a good lighthouse and sunset picture. I didnt quite get the right angle on the lighthouse. I think there where better piers in the area. Either way it was a relaxing 30 minutes. I then headed to Toledo to go hang out with a friend.

Worst weather in the world, so they say.
I paid the $28 and drove up the steep 8 miles to the top. I then walked around on the overcast morning. I checked out the old Tip top restaurant then headed over to the newer restaurant and gift shop. I enjoyed a nice breakfast with some hot chocolate.

Next time im in the area, I will put this one on my hiking list. I didnt have time this trip.

Hellbrook Trail to the Adams Apple cut off to Long trail -to the Summit.

It took me 2.5 hours to hike the 1.75 miles to the top. For a short hike, It was one of the hardest hikes I have done. It was a full body workout. Not wanting to come back the way I came up, I decided to take the Long trail down. It dumped me out a mile from my truck.

I had original planned on hiking Mount Katahdin today. With bad weather on the mountain, I ended up checking out a couple other sites.
Stop 1: Sunrise at Rockland Breakwater Park.
The cloud cover prevented a colorful sunrise. It was still a cool morning hike.

Stop 2: Fort Point Lighthouse

Stop 3: Eagle Lake Locomotive.

Some family history.
I was talking with my mother, on the phone, as I was driving through Connecticut. She mentioned this old church that has some deep family ties. She has wanted to visit this church for some time. I told her I would stop by and take some pictures. Since I stopped by on a Sunday, there where plenty of people there that knew the history of the church. The original church was built in the early 1600s and rebuilt in the 1800s. There is a stained glass window of one of the first Ferris's to come to the New World(1610-1666.) He was the second Reverend of the church. I visited for a while, then stopped by two cemeteries. There are over 50 Ferris sites at these locations.
This stop added 6 hours to todays portion of the trip. It made for a long day..

I originally had a 7 mile loop planned for this hike. An unplanned stop earlier in the day killed my daylight hours. The sun started setting 30 minutes into the hike. I ended up hiking back in the dark.. Good times.
