Trail passes over a low rise and then heads down into a broad basin, which was very green with spring growth from recent rains. Nice trail meanders along edge of basin with mountains and small "needles" rising on the left and Miner's Needle ahead in the near distance.
At about 3 miles in, the trail turns left (north) and heads up into a valley, climbing along the east slope. Though not too difficult, this will get your heart pumping before you crest the ridge.
After the ascent, the trail enters an area that gives a wonderful feeling of solitude. Here the vegetation changes noticeably, with much more grass, prickly pear cactus, and even some small trees. Keep an eye out for an unusual corridor of chollas that grow about 5 ft. high on either side of the trail.
The trail then turns left and loosely follows a wash. Eventually, a canyon becomes evident on the right. In this area, watch for the junction with the Terrapin trail. A bit later the trail connects with the Bluff Springs Trail #235. This trail is described in more detail in the Bluff Springs Mtn Loop description. |
