We were able to drive nearly right up to the cliff dwelling, stopping just before the small "pass". Missed the small side trail because we thought we had a bit further to go and ended up doing some extra climbing before realizing it. The dwelling was really cool, we haven't seen anything like this before(except in pictures of course). Passed one rattler that was black with yellow circles, he got pretty upset which really freaked out Ashley(my wife). Also saw a deer walking along a ridgeline nearby, but she was too far to get a decent pic. There was a good variety of birds on the drive in(and along nearby Cherry Creek) that I hadn't encountered in AZ, still need to ID them so I don't know what species yet.

Did this one again opposite of the direction in the description. Went the described way last weekend. Ashley(my wife) tagged along too! The reason for doing a hike 2 times in a row A)to see if the Cacti had come into full bloom yet and B) So when I tell Ashley "just 5 more minutes" to so and so point in the hike I am telling the truth!(and not just placating her). Did a little swimming in one of the many pools along Boulder Creek Eau Natural(me not her!) Sorry for that imagery. Does anyone know how long these pools usually last approximately? It was definitely a treat since it hit 97 degrees today!! Almost stepped on a med rattler just lounging on the side of the trail. He didn't rattle or even budge.

Skipped out on work to do Brown's peak before all of the snow melts. I wasn't disappointed, the snow was softening during the afternoon and I sunk to my thigh in several spots. Made it to the chute just before the summit, but didn't attempt it due to too much snow left in the chute and the soft snow conditions(plus my own inexperience in such conditions). Will be back to finish!!

Hiked this one with my wife. The weather was perfect and the views were long except when looking Northeast to PHX where the Brown Cloud obscured most of the skyline. Ewwww.....we live in that! I really liked this trail for both the view of the huge, mostly empty, valley to the Southwest and for the solitude of course. This is a good workout hike due to the constant climb.

Went with Ashley(my wife)for an afternoon hike. The small side falls near the beginning of the hike were running nicely, but the water soon went under the sand. The creek was running strong, we got our feet wet crossing it several times. The main falls were running very strong. The hike has interesting rocks and great views for very little work. Today we lunched while gazing on Four Peaks and surrounding mountains covered in snow!

Ashley(my Wife) and I did an out and back on this one. The foliage was looking really good! Probably a week of color left.

Wife and I did this hike after Camping on the rim the previous night. We added a half mile by accidentally veering onto a fresh firebreak that intersected the trail, we also hiked along the lake a bit adding another half mile. The foliage was looking good, will probably be so for another week!

Did this one with joe ,berkforbes ,rlrjamy. Great bunch of guys! If you do this hike WEAR PANTS!! I did not, and paid the price in blood. The views were definitely worth the price in blood and sweat though! So many prominent supes features were visible from the summit, this was quite the educational experience. Joe Bartels has pictures conveniently labeled in his log for us.(Thanks Joe!)

I was up on FR 300 poking around this weekend, the Railroad Tunnel hike (also Colonel Devin Trail #290) was still posted closed due the the recent fire. Just mentioning this as it is on the home page as a recommended hike.

Just did part of this trail as a short dayhike and to find a nice meadow to lunch in. I was really just poking around the various forest service roads to recon for future adventures.

Finally did this hike today, it was a great escape from the 114 deg Phoenix heat. The altitude kicked my butt on the way up, and had a killer headache all the way down. This was the first time I've had to put on my long sleeves AND jacket to stop shivering in awhile. Weather was mostly clear until the summit but soon became overcast with some lightning in the distance, only caught a few drops though! Checked out the B-24 crash site on the way down, it was worth it for a quick 45 min. side hike.

Stopped by this one on my way down from the summit hike. It was neat to see a small part of military history from this area rather than ruins/vistas and such. Found several engine parts and cowlings and some fuselage. It was actually quite easy to find though finding the trail after recrossing the very long!(vertically) boulder field as it was getting to dusk was tricky.

Did this as an overnighter first week of Jan. Neat views of the city from my cliffside campsite. I started having a killer headache right at bedtime for some reason, did not get a good night sleep at all. Next day started out great, but soon some low clouds moved right along the ridge chasing me for about 45 min. and finally caught me. Temps dropped to upper 30s(I believe) the wind was soon whipping and it even began to sleet! Visibility was down to 30 ft or so, lost the cairns several times. Only one spot really confused me though, where the trail disappears onto a smooth and quite steep(and now slippery with sleet) area of rock of at least 100+ yards(above Hog Canyon maybe??) Finally figured out after 20 minutes this is where you must do a little climb up/over the ridge within a small hard to find slot(in low visibility anyhow) This was a great hike that I hope to do again sometime when visibility allows me to actually SEE the wonderful(so I've heard) views!!
