I agree that the most dangerous part of this hike is the descent from the base of the needle back to the trail bring you to the Peralta saddle. Very loose, steep terrain with heavy packs makes ankles go break.

There was a new bolt placed at the top of what can be considered to be the first pitch - Also, there are a set of slings w locking biners just below the rock that you would crawl under, around or over at the top pf pitch 2. I am not sure what the intent for these were/are, but they made for a really convenient backpack holder while I crawled under the rock, and then pulled up to retrieve my bag.

My partner was poorly out of shape! haha - She only made it to the haldway point saddle. I explored to the south and came across a very "loving" couple amidst the rocks! Less of a hike, and more of a good time outside with a friend

My time posted is actual moving time. We went down South Kaibab to a point about 4 miles past Phantom Ranch & back. My first time to the river! Amazing views, I fell in love with a girl in green who passed by, fought through some serious foot pain, and loved every minute of it. Most painful hike to date, would do it again in a heartbeat.

Bag was packed for a possible R2R2R, though I had my doubts w the weather. Luckily we did not go for it that day - will be back!
