This was my first official hike after getting hernia surgery one month ago. Took it easy and didn't even go to the peak like I normally do. Progress is good but I want to make sure it all heals properly. Weather was perfect.
My Girlfriend grew up in a little town called Camargo in Southern Chihuahua Mexico. While there for Christmas I spotted a nice mountain that was calling my name. Here brother showed me the way to get to the base of it on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas morning I went and hiked it.
Up top there was a very small church along with some radio towers. The views were fantastic all the way around and I was greeted up there by some goats.
On the way down I was surprised to see some of her family including the brother had come to the base and started hiking up to join me.
This is my 11th trip to Basset. That number would be much higher if it wasn't a 3.5 hour drive from home. At least half of those trips were to see the fall colors as the leaves change. Of all my trips this one had the best color show by far and the vibrant trees were in abundance. I don't ever recall seeing that much. It was even on the back side by the plane crash. The aspens were also bright yellow which was great to see from above.
Basset is one I enjoy all year round but when it puts on a show it is spectacular! Today was absolutely AMAZING!
If you don't mind the drive and want to see some color I would say go between now and the next 5 to 10 days. Otherwise just enjoy a small sampling of Joe and my photos. Combined I think we took almost FIVE HUNDRED pictures!!!
