Elbows & knees scrapped up a lot from the slot sections (shorts & tee's not helping at all!). Only one hole with water in it- slimy green gross water - that one can wade thru chest deep & set up a zip line for the others to stay dry. All the other "Waterholes" were bone dry. No need for wetsuits today. The bid drop isn't that difficult if you have a plan prior to arriving there. Used - in order - 1 - 200' foot rope to rap down to the 1st 90' squeeze, 100' rope tied to a 250' pull cord using the 100' section rope to rap to the edge of the world ledge (15' or so down), & 1 - 350' rope to rap the big drop....with the last guy down tying the 100'/250' cord (tied together of course prior to starting) to the 350' for a pull when we all got down. The 200' rope was bagged at the end of the 90' rap by the second to last person down when the second to last person & last person finished the 90' rap & were standing at the bottom of the squeeze together ready to do the 15' rap. Jim's pirana was so hot that at the bottom of the 350' drop his forearm touched it & now he has this crescent shape burn on his forearm. No problems with the rope eating crack, you just need to take care....Lodge Canyon at Zion had more of a chance to stick ropes.... Standing at the Edge of The World was the coolest part. It's not like the wall in front of you is "pushing you backwards", it has a slight slant up & away so you don't feel uneasy standing there. But the fact that you have to safety in, unrope from the 100' rope, rope in to the 350' rope, unsafety then rap down is a real cool sequence & not one you want to screw up! The distance down is kinda hard to guage and it seems like it took 5 minutes to rap down, with the ground friggin forever away. Worth the effort....now who do I know who has a 400' rope for Insomnia????? |
