My boy and I hit this today. Very quiet trail on a Presidents day weekend. Really easy to find route until you miss the turn off like described. We finally got back on track and figured out where we went wrong. Had fun and ate a little snack up top.

My son (who is 4) and I did this hike the day after New Years. We arrived early to the lot around 10:30 and there were only a about 4 cars in the lot. I thought this boded well for the hike not being full of people.

The first mile or so is around a big resort. This was full of noise and bustle and not very relaxing or beautiful to say the least. I found this very annoying and not very nature like at all. We quickly walked past this area and it soon quieted down and the canyon started closing in.

This time of year is nice because the trees have less foliage and it is so much easier to see the canyon for the trees so to speak. We do not do Sedona in the summer as it is our getting out of cold weather area.

We walked to the end and sat and had a snack and drank some water. We enjoyed the quietness of the canyon and the chill of the air. Then it was back out. This is where the mass of humanity started pouring in. It took us considerably longer to hike out as no one coming in would make way for us. I am hiking here with a 4 year old and the people just kept running us off the trail and not stopping to let us pass.

I understand Sedona is a type of mecca for some but for us it is more of our back yard. I guess I am saying that some tourists who decide to see Sedona should read up a bit on hiking and how being noisy and rude is not good etiquette.

Beautiful canyon though.

My son and I went and did this hike to see the extent of the Brins Mesa Fire. After a mile or so you start seeing the extent of the fire. after 2 miles you are pretty much in it. We stopped on the top of the mesa and walked out to see Soldiers pass trail and the people on it.

Nice hike. It will be nice to see how this area recovers in the future.

I thought I would take a hike this weekend to somewhere that I hadn't been yet. So I chose O'Leary Peak.

I left early in the morning and was at trailhead at 7AM. I took my time and went slow due to being out of shape. It was definately 5 miles to the top (I measured it on my Garmin GPS) and the last 1 1/2 miles were the hardest in my book.

The views at the top were really nice. Not like the Inner Basin trail but still great views.

This is a nice hike through a beautiful canyon. I took off early in the morning from Flagstaff and was at the trail head by 630. It was quite brisk. The canyon starts like most in the Sedona Area as a wide canyon but soon narrows down.

The elevation gain at the end was a butt kicker, the views were well worth it. I would recomend this hike to everyone.

I decided to do some uphill hiking and thought that this would be a great one to start on. Was I ever right, uphill all the way. For my first little hike of the season it was an arse kicker. I did make it and really enjoyed the view. I realized on my way down, and by the number of people coming up, that the afternoon would be a better time to start this hike due to shade cover on the trail. I left at 10:30. I think that 1 PM would be a better time to start because of all the shade becoming available on the trail.
