| no partners | | First time doing the ridge line and I wanted to try out my new Backcountry Navigation app (soooo much cheaper than a GPS unit). I'm glad I brought along the phone because there was some route finding and we still managed to get off track multiple times.
The hike up to the summit was well marked and fairly easy but the beginning of the ridge line is pretty daunting for your average day hiker, . After a brief agreement with the BF on if we should continue, along the ridge line we went! We went slow carefully until about halfway when it flattened out. It was very pretty out there today! The only problem being the haze that haven't gone away the last couple days.
Somehow, we lost the trial on the decent and had to do some pretty nasty bush whacking. I left pieces of my skin and blood up there to prove it! it never occurred to me to check the GPS app until we were so far off the trial it was easier to just continue the way we were going.
All and all it was a very intense hike for us (day hike 2-3 night a week), but totally doable and a great workout! Next time I think we can go a lot faster now that we know generally where we are going. And the backcountry navigation app by critter is pretty awesome and for only $10, worth the price and comparable to the etrex 20 and 30. |
