Started at 6:40, shared the summit with one other party. The parking lot was full, but the trail to the peak wasn't busy at all.

Nice hiking area in Woodstock, VT.

Got dropped off at Billings Farm, hiked up Mountain Road, around the Pogue, up Mount Tom, then down the Faulkner Trail. The Precipice Trail (which I had never been on because it's not a safe winter option) is especially challenging and beautiful.

Great backpack to Seville Lake for 2 nights, with a short day trip to Lost Lake during the middle day. We got permits at Grant Grove, drove quite a ways on narrow and/or dirt roads to Rowell TH in Jennie Lakes Wilderness, then entered Kings Canyon NP via Belle Canyon.

Both lakes are awesome, though Seville was a bit crowded so we were camping close to several other parties. The hike in was quite a bit longer than I anticipated (which ruled out doing a larger loop over to Twin Lakes for the second night), and there is a very steep descent from the park boundary toward the lakes which made for a slow hike out.

Having a lake to swim in at the campsite is a huge plus. So is having bear lockers available--we used them, but were advised to bring canisters in case the lockers were full or not secure.

Visibility was not up to AZ standards, but was fine enough until the last day when it got hazy (this was a while before the fires in Sequoia).

Perfect weather, had some interesting conversation on the way down with someone relatively new to Tucson.

Perfect weather, only 3 other parties on the trail. I'm really overdue to try the ridge over to Panther again...

Nice hike to commence winter break. Only saw one other person on the trail right by the parking lot.

This is not as quiet as it was before that big development showed up. Still some great weather and views, only saw one other group on the trail.

Beautiful evening on the mountain, thankfully not too crowded at the trailhead.

Perfectly timed hike in terms of sunlight - got to the car just as the sunset finished - but there were too many people clogging up the trail and not making an effort to distance. It's hard to tell what kind of shape upper Pima Canyon is in after the fire; there's more green than I expected, but obviously a lot of burn areas.

One sheep! As usual, posed dramatically on a ledge.

Took a bunch of first timers up and they survived! :y: Cold and windy - since the start of my 2020 Golden Gate routine, this was the momentous first wearing of the fleece (for the summit at least). Summit beers and a great sunset.

This was a better use of my time than staring at the TV. Got an early enough start that it wasn't too dark. Beautiful weather.

Some kind of bizarre electronic setup was happening in the parking lot when I got back. Maybe a DJ booth?

Started around 5:25 and it was dangerously dark on the way down - fell quite a long ways at one point and thankfully landed on my feet. Beautiful night though with nice moonlight.

First time in the Catalinas since before the fire. Soooooooo dry. Even though the temps have been high, at least the October sun is relatively mild. A nice breeze helps too.

First time on Hopkins and Carrie Nation. We started up Vault Mine to AC saddle, and then up the ridge (where there's not really a trail, but it's mostly clear) to the road. The views along the route/road and at the summit are amazing. We got unceremoniously told to leave though on account of road construction - apparently there's heavy equipment going up and down the road and a pedestrian (or maybe a cyclist?) was recently injured. The trail down is steep and brushy, but obvious. Great day in the Santa Ritas.

Water at Carrie Nation mine, lots of birds.

Beautiful weather, skies thankfully less smoky than previous weeks. Also no rattlesnakes (that I noticed).

It was a little awkward when I pulled into the parking lot listening to a basketball podcast and then noticed that there was a full-blown wedding ceremony 20 feet to my left. They were done before I could get my boots on, so it wasn't too bad.

It's cooling down finally!

This is the third time I've seen a rattlesnake on this trail since the start of the summer, and the second trip in a row. I'm never nervous about snakes when I hike, but I'm almost to that point when it comes to this trail...

Very hazy from fires and had an upset stomach. Saw a rattlesnake right by the trailhead and heard a bunch of coyotes as I was traversing from the saddle below the summit over to the main drainage. They sounded like they were on Yetman, but I was too far away to tell.

Hot in the sun near the trailhead, but otherwise perfect weather. Only 2 other parties. Some water down in the canyon about 2 miles in, and Bathtub Spring is full (a welcome cool-down spot).

Not as many flowers as when we did this a few years ago, but still quite a few. The Crest trail and Miller summit are really hard to beat...

Unfortunately the nearest Popeye's appeared to be on-base, but Culver's sufficed.
