Went up Soldier Pass in Sedona and looped around to Brins Mesa. Had a great lunch sitting on a rock on Brins Mesa that must have afforded one of the best views in the world. Highly recommend this hike! ;)

I was half (the better half)of the couple that Joe ran into after seeing the group of 20-30 people. We were also freaked out about the large group because there was no vehicle for them at the trailhead. Very weird.

We hiked to the petroglyphs and continued on through the narrows, where the petroglyphs dot the canyon walls. On the way back we climbed up on top of the Mesa and then made our way back around to the wash. I found two large pieces of very plan pottery in the wash (and of course left them in the wash).

It's an easy hike with nice views but the Superstitions are better if all you're after is an easy hike with nice views. This trail is worth the drive, however, for the petroglyphs.

Holy cow I LOVED this hike! Can't wait to get back out there again. We managed to find some ruins, but whether they were the ruins described in "Hiking Ruins Seldom Seen" I do not know. We got way off track looking for them and actually found them from the wrong side of the canyon, though the view was stupendous. We eventually made our way back around the other side of the canyon to just above the ruin but couldn't find a clear way to get to them without a rope. It being late in the day, caution won out over bravery and we headed back.

This hike has some of the BEST views I've ever seen on a hike in Arizona. I intend to explore the area more extensively as soon as I can. More later!! Anyone want to come along, send pm.

This hike is not that great. Any of the hikes in the nearby Catalinas are ten times prettier.

Davidbe's comments below are correct. Start this hike at the Echo Canyon trailhead and do the loop from there. This is one of the better hikes I've seen in Arizona. Saw a banded rock rattlesnake on the trail.

I expected this hike to be tough but I didn't expect it to be so beautiful. The trail winds through a really great forest that, although within easy distance of Globe, feels as though it is much more remote. Really enjoyed this hike very much.

:) This is a fun, challenging hike that affords wonderful vistas. We showed up in shorts which was unfortunate because it was very cold at the top of the mountain. We also ran into lots of rain and hail and one herd of elk. I don't know why this is rated as moderate...I was pretty sore at the end of the hike. Great hike!

I would do this hike every weekend if it weren't six flipping hours away. Fabulous hike! It is nice to get out of the same old ponderosa pine forest into a real alpine experience. Take the time to get there and do it!

We hiked this trail at the end of March and it was very hot. There is little or no shade on the trail that leads into and out of the canyon. However, once down at the canyon bottom shade was more abundant. Instead of going after the Big Dipper, we stayed on the trail and hiked to a spring next to an abondoned mine house. Though we went no further, it seemed as though the trail from there heads into the pines and would be much cooler than the rest of the hike.
