A nice through trip from Pima Canyon trailhead to Campbell trailhead, then Lyft back to the car. The route on the Pima Canyon side hasn’t been used much since the fire, but easy to make your way up the drainage and game trails to the saddle. Sadly the rosewood trees near the peak didn’t make it, either. Great views, though, as the clouds from the recent big storm were still lingering over the Catalinas.

Gorgeous December day. Hardly anyone else on the trail. Made it to the impressive mine ruins at 3.5 miles. Started the scramble to the top but then remembered what goes up must come down. As we were both already bleeding and in boots instead of approach shoes, we headed back down and had our picnic by the ruins instead.

The wind was howling on the way down. We didn’t see a drop of water in the pools. Hoping this storm fills them up!

It was a lovely meander but not lacking in disappointment. We had come here to swim. The words Soggy Wet and Pools were spoken excitedly and dreamed of all week as we saw on the radar Nogales getting drenched day after day. Where all that water went is anybody’s guess! The “first pool” was little more than knee deep. Green waters here and there, but nothing even to dip my feet in. So we hiked a couple miles in to the side canyon, dilly dallied and enjoyed some lunch under the trees, and headed out as the temperature rose past 100. On the way out we met a local ranching family on their way for a swim and had to break the news. They would not be jumping from the “high rock”...or any rock...today.
