Hey Whatsup! I'm exausted and a little sunburnt, but I have totally enjoyed this hike! We started out on the trail at 9:00pm, what a perfect area to night hike. We got to angel basin in about two hours, and setup camp. The evening was very chilly this weekend, with lows in the 50's. In the morning, we broke camp and explored around the basin, and walked .5mi back to the ruins. On the trail on the far side of the creek from the ruins is a little path that goes up a hill, up there is a lookout rock the indians mustave used. its really worn down. The ruins are strategecally located, and the construction is so meticulous that a majority of the structures are intact. Years of smoke has caused the ceilings to turn a sooty black. Definatly climb up to the second level, but be careful! With binoculars we spotted several probable dwellings up the cliff from these. Who knows, but I'd like to venture up there someday. The hike out is most definatly uphill.

We hiked to the saddle on Friday evening, cresting the top just as the sun set for the evening. Unfamiliar with the area, we decided to camp at the saddle rather than risk getting lost in the dark. We awoke early and continued on to the ranch. This is definatly the time of year to do this hike. The apple orchard is in full bloom, with petals drifting lazily to the ground. The tops of the trees are literally filled with buzzing bees happily collecting nectar. We walked through the orchard and not a single bee flew down from the canopy to check us out. It was a little unnerving, but the trees are so fragrant its worth it! We discussed checking out CircleStone, but decided time was against us and it would have to wait for another hike. Leaving the ranch, we began the walk back to the trailhead. After the saddle, right at the end of the switchbacks are two Cairns marking a little uphill trail to Elisha Reavis' Grave site. Elisha really has a beautiful view looking across the valley. The final leg of the trip is uphill and when the parking lot finally comes into view, it is a welcome site. I suggest this hike ASAP before the apple blossoms drop and the temperature gets too hot.

Oh man what an enjoyable hike this is! I wouldnt recommend it in the summertime due to the intense heat in the area. But during the spring/winter/fall season this is a real jewel in the desert. We hiked the whole trail, by parking one car at the bottom of the canyon and driving the other car to the top. The hike down and into the springs area was great, the rock and cactus give way to lush greenery fairly suddenly. The water gushing out of the ground is really at 72 degrees! I coulndn't believe how clear the water was, and wading around in the stream after the first day's hike was very relaxing. We camped right next to the dam. The debris removal system on the dam startled us when we first heard it, and tho it continues at intervals all night long, it was not a bother. In the morning, I clambered down to the base of the dam, there are some beautiful pools of water down there. We hiked the flume road back to the car, pausing to wet shirts and the dogs with some flume water. I loved this hike, and will always consider this one when the subject of camping comes up.
