Midnight Mesa Loop (Mazzies) over Thanksgiving

Post by nonot »

Greetings Friends,

I am putting together a plan to backpack in the western Mazzies over Thanksgiving break. Right now the loose plan is to start on Thanksgiving day itself (Thursday) and going through the weekend, finishing Sunday afternoon. It will be a loop or lasso loop. However, I haven't yet picked out the loop I want to do, so if it turns out to be a 3 day loop I may start the day after thanksgiving.

If you are interested, feel free to sign up, or else even if not, feel free to offer suggestions of loops that are 3-4 days, as I am not that familiar with this area.

PM for carpool details if you want to coordinate on a ride.

@Widowmaker
Well, the midnight mesa loop looks like it would be a three day trip, so starting at Friday morning rather than Thursday morning.

I may need to pester mazatzal to reveal details of the awesome campsite near Mountain Spring.

I like the Midnight Mesa Loop suggestion. Undecided on whether to start on Thursday or Friday. So if anyone attending has family plans on Thursday let me know.

Yes, the plan is the Midnight Mesa Loop, starting either Thursday (thanksgiving) or Friday (day after thanksgiving) for 3 days, 2 nights.

If you have no preference, I would like to start on Thursday.

Isn't the whole point of backpacking on Thanksgiving to get away from family? ;)

The start date of this trip has been changed to Friday, watch out for consumers on the hunt for crazy black friday deals.

Mountain spring has nice camping site with water. I did this one last year. that is farthest I went on this loop from sheep bridge. And I also did portion of Midnight mesa TH to Willow spring TH. this portion of trail is very hard to follow, falling trees are everywhere.
