Quick Hikes off I40

Post by squatpuke »

Traveling to Oklahoma City soon...
Is anyone aware of any quick hikes right along or off I40 (New Mexico/Texas/OK) for traveling leg-stretchers?

@squatpuke
I do my best to never get out of my vehicle in NM, best there are some decent trails on Mt Taylor on the north side of Grants NM.
Stop crying and just go do the hike.

While I don't completely share Linda's feelings for the state, I don't totally disagree, either. Albuquerque is no Tucson.

As suggested, Mount Taylor area, although that is getting far from the 40.

Personally, I think the La Luz is a good bet. I always wanted to hike to the top from the bottom, but I did a small section lower down 11 years ago and enjoyed it. [ La Luz Trail ]

I've never been, but some videos from Palo Duro Canyon in Texas popped up on my YouTube feed a few months ago and it looked interesting. Appears to be somewhat close to I-40.

@squatpuke I know Arizona is not among your requested states but it should not be overlooked that Petrified Forest National Park is probably the closest site to the 40 with short and easy leg-stretching hikes you are interested in. And it’s been a decade since you’ve been there so there are likely a whole forest worth of newly petrified trees to see!
