Trans-supes hike early January
Well the time is fastly approaching and I wanted to get this thread up. 4 months to work up the details, route, firm dates, and water details.
First what dates work for everyone? I will be back to school on January 20 so it would need to be before then. I will need to ask for time off work within the next month or two to get it off work since that of year time is kinda hectic.
Next What route sounds interesting? of course there is the shuttle possibility and hiking east to west, but I was also looking at the possibility of a super loop starting at Peralta going to Reavis and looping back. Also I heard talk of possible routes through canyons. Im sure there are tons of super loop possibilities.
Whats sounds good on mileage? 35-50 if on trail maybe, probably less if we were doing routes off trail?

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
I am still interested in getting on board with whatever this hike turns out to be. I will be traveling a TON in January, but my travels are normally Tue, Wen and Thur. which leaves me the weekend to go play. My dog needs a multi-night trip too. His new backpack is dialed and he is ready to go log some miles.
I will keep my eye on this, but you can pretty much count me in for anything.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
Im still waiting for my christmas break schedule to materialize. Some chatter in my about a trip to Joshua Tree after christmas but before new year. So Im just waiting right now and planning this trip for sometime between Jan 1st and Jan 19. For 3-5 days. Im still considering the itenerary and route. I will post when I know more which should be within a few weeks when I need to start thinking about asking days over xmas break off from work.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
I was reading in Hiker's guide to the superstition wilderness, and I think I just had a change of heart on the itenerary. What I would rather do than a giant loop is a shuttle from First water trailhead to Reavis trailhead, going on Dutchman to Charlebois, Peter's Trail to Tortilla Ranch, JF Trail to Roger's Canyon, Roger's Canyon trail to Reavis Trail, Reavis Ranch trail through Reavis ranch and ending at Reavis trailhead.
The total hiking mileage would be around 42 miles. The shuttle is a very small easy 23 mile shuttle, or we could have someone pick us up the last day.
This trip just sounds alot cooler than my first idea of a Reavis Superloop starting from Peralta. Im thinking that would take 3-4 days and would be a ton of fun.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
just a thought: many of the HAZers have done the Reavis trail (numerous) before. So if you just take the shuttle over to the Two Bar Ridge TH you can see part of the Supes nobody goes to. Reavis Gap tr. to TB traihead covers some good scenery and the az88 is worth a drive. very pretty along the Salt River corridor

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
That sounds even better in fact. Just add a few miles to the hike and shuttle. From Reavis Ranch take the Reavis Gap trail to Two Bar Ridge trail and Two Bar Ridge back to the trailhead.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
Hi folks. I'm interested in joining this hike. I get out in the Supes quite a bit (live on Peralta Rd), and this proposed route looks very interesting. A multi day hike in the 1/1 to 1/5 timeframe works for me. I have been a HAZ member for a few years, but just started browsing this forum. I had a bit of correspondence with te-wa over at the hammockforums, and he referred me to a hike going on over here. You all look like a good bunch of hard core hikers, am looking forward to meeting some of you.

Bummer I just saw this trip and would totally be down, but we will still be out in Death Valley/Mojave Road when you have this planned. I will keep my eye out for future adventures!

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
As it stands right now, I have it on the calender. I am HOPING I can pull this off. It will be me and Topo (the 4-legged hiker!). My wife and I will be going to Big Bear to see family the week before that, and as long as we are back I am in. We should be ironing out plans for that trip pretty soon. I will keep you posted. -Tyler

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
okay so right now we have abunch of interesteds, at least 2 probablys, and a most likely for 3 of the 4 days.
Anyone got any info on the road to Two Bar Ridge? Is it 4wd only, or high clearance, or passenger car, or "high clearance but you could probably swing it in a passenger car".

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
You can always go to the Tule TH instead, it's no problem for any passenger car. It's roughly the same distance from Reavis Ranch. I don't know how many road miles it is from the Two Bar TH. I'd be totally in for this hike if it weren't for deadlines. The Charlebois to Angel Basin is the only leg I haven't hiked.rally_toad wrote:Anyone got any info on the road to Two Bar Ridge?

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
Things are lining up nicely on my calander, and Topo and I are getting close to confirming! I am VERY confident now, that we will be in!
I am STOKED!
I also have a high clearance 4x4 that I can get 4 or 5 people in if we need it.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
Sweet! I imagine we will need a 4x4 for the Two Bar Ridge Trailhead from what I've read. If for some reason we cant get a 4x4 shuttle together we can always modify it to go out the Tule Trailhead or Reavis Trailhead.Dirt4dinner wrote:Things are lining up nicely on my calander, and Topo and I are getting close to confirming! I cant offer anything by way of 4x4 as I have an old low clearance mustang. But my friend Andrew who will most likely be in on this has access to a high clearance two wheel drive truck.
We will have to work out the shuttle details.
