Trans-supes hike early January
Well the time is fastly approaching and I wanted to get this thread up. 4 months to work up the details, route, firm dates, and water details.
First what dates work for everyone? I will be back to school on January 20 so it would need to be before then. I will need to ask for time off work within the next month or two to get it off work since that of year time is kinda hectic.
Next What route sounds interesting? of course there is the shuttle possibility and hiking east to west, but I was also looking at the possibility of a super loop starting at Peralta going to Reavis and looping back. Also I heard talk of possible routes through canyons. Im sure there are tons of super loop possibilities.
Whats sounds good on mileage? 35-50 if on trail maybe, probably less if we were doing routes off trail?

heck we might run into you. We'll be within a few miles of each other on the 4th if you do the Campaign Reavis loop.

Cool at least I'll have one person! It is very probable that my friend Andrew will be tagging along too.Dirt4dinner wrote:I am 98% sure! It might just be us. -Tyler
Looks like a few wont be able to make it, which is too bad, but understandable since we will be hiking on 2 weekdays.
I think this will be a fun trip.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
With a little luck, I will have a brand new pack, and a SPOT GPS for this trip!
I am looking forward to using the SPOT.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
Keep in mind everyone. You dont have join us for the whole 42 mile 4 day trip. If you have that friday off and just want to do a dayhike with us to Charlebois and back that is cool , or the itenerary is listed complete with where we plan to camp so if you wanted to join us for a night at Angel Basin or Reavis Ranch then for sure go for it. That means even if you cant join us on the whole trip you could go for a leg of the journey and bail in time to get back for whatever obligations you have.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
I'm IN! I got the request in for two days of PTO and I will start getting my gear lined up...
I also scored the SPOT GPS from my folks for Christmas (they gave it to me early).
So before the hike let me know the email address or cell phone number of anyone who might want updates on this trip. I can send them a link.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
For anyone interested... for logistics reasons we will now be doing this hike from east to west instead of west to east.
Day 1 Two Bar to Reavis
Day 2 Reavis to Angel Basin
Day 3 Angel Basin to Charlebois
Day 4 Charlebois out to First Water
Its happening for sure and we have three people so far. Any questions just ask or send me a pm.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
Looks like it's going to be a chilly couple nights out in the sups. I have two other people who are interested in joining now. It might turn out to be a good size group after all.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
Well actually the forecast looks as though for those days its clearing up and gonna be relatively warm, accuweather and weather. com both forecast highs in the low 70s and lows in the 40s with no chance of rain, lets hope that holds up, because that sounds really nice. That forecast is for Apache Junction though, so it might be a bit cooler at Reavis and Angel Basin.

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
You can actually look up the weather for Roosevelt on weather com which is probably at least a bit closer to the conditions in eastern Supes. It's saying that Sat and Sun will be low 60s for them but still sunny and lows in the low 40s (which will probably mean 30s or below for at least the higher elevation spots in eastern Supes).

Re: Trans-supes hike early January
the definition of "way cold" could vary greatly between parties. I find it obvious the folks from Phoenix think that 38° is "way cold"
Someone from Flagstaff may say that is "just right".
Another guy from Seattle would call that a "nice day"
Im good down to mid teens. anything less, stay home mikey.
you can get a google-map assisted spot on weather report that is fairly close IME. Try to copy/paste this address and then use the map for pinpoint. this is the reavis ranch area, done for you.

When I'm backpacking in AZ or CO, I don't normally wear anything but a long-sleeved polyester shirt and nylon pants until just above freezing, although I might wear a hat and gloves. I add a base layer sooner in more humid climes, where the cold has more effect. (Edit: I should add that the temperature in my avatar was about 35F)
